Setting the mysql root password in XAMPP

XAMPP comes with the mysql utility 'mysqladmin'

This command allows you to perform various functikons.

If you install/reinstall XAMPP the default password is blank.

To set the password you issue:

# mysqladmin -u root password YOURNEWPASSWORD
